Mostafa's story
When Mostafa Mohammed lost his foot due to an infection, there seemed to be little hope for him and his family. As a landless labourer in rural Bangladesh, people in his situation are often forced to resort to a life of begging or homelessness. Instead, he and his wife moved to Dhaka, where remarkably, he learnt to ride a rickshaw using only one leg. Mostafa's journey reveals the profound injustices embedded in a society marked by stark class divisions. At the same time, it challenges conventional narratives of poverty and disability – it is a story about strength, hope and determination.
